Can you imagine a world without mattresses? At some point in our history, a very smart human decided that sleeping on the ground was not the best idea, and thus the mattress was born. Since then, mattresses have been made of all kinds of materials; pine needles, straw, pea shucks, palm boughs, reeds, horsehair, and wool were all use at one time or another. It wasn't until 1871 that the first innerspring mattress was patented. Today, almost 150 years later, the innerspring mattress is still the most popular mattress style in use.
However, since the 1960s, a mattress revolution has been slowly building. It began with the waterbed. Although people had dabbled with the idea of creating waterbeds for years, the invention of vinyl changed everything, making a reliable, comfortable waterbed a reality. The popularity of waterbeds opened people's eyes to new ways of sleeping beyond the standard innerspring bed. Waterbeds created a new segment within the mattress industry, specialty sleep, which now includes, in addition to waterbeds, memory foam beds, air beds, and latex beds (which have actually been around since the 20's), and more.
SleepPros entered the specialty sleep arena in the 1990s and has sold tens of thousands of specialty sleep mattresses since. Our beds are built with two primary goals in mind: comfort and durability. Of course, we offer our mattresses at the best prices we can, but we do not sacrifice quality in order to lower our costs.
